Japan eel Used to Power Christmas Tree

|

I didn't believe it until after I first read the article. In theory what this guy is doing is very possible. I am not sure as to the electron output of an electric eel, but I must say this is most impressive to be able to harness such a thing. Following the bouncing ball I began to wonder, just how does an electric eel work (as if its some device or instrument)? I think I've found my favorite animal in the world.

Bamboo Lap Top

|

The Asus Eco Book apparently actually uses Bamboo in is construction. I took one look at the headline of the article and knew I had to instantly blog about it, because its just a cool idea.

I wonder what the price tag will be on it however, the article gives no indication.

Evolving Dictionary

|

/\|>ara|\|7|y (apparently), gamers have their footprint firmly imprinted into |-|1s7ory(history) because Merriam-Webster's decided to put the word "w00t" in the dictionary.

Purists of "l33t speak" often substitute a "7" for the final "t," expressing a "w007" of victory — an "in your face" of sorts — when they defeat an online gaming opponent.

It tickles me that us gamers have this big of an influence. Makes me wonder where the English language is headed.

There Might be Hope for me Afterall

|

Its been a fear of mine that when I graduate college there won't be a company I could find that falls inline with what I would like to do after I get out of college. In a few more semesters I'll be graduating with my Computer Engineering Degree and I'd like to get involved with a company who is doing something innovative that is geared towards helping with global warming-- not limited but including alternative power sources, reuse of C02, more efficient production of anything that cuts back on production of C02, etc etc. This company along with a few others have given me hope.

One company with a novel approach is Massachusetts-based start-up General Compression, which is building a wind turbine that compresses air and stores it underground in caves or other geological structures. The compressed air is drawn when needed and expanded to drive electricity generators."

How cool is that?

For several hours of storage, utilities are testing different battery technologies. Each of these techniques has different purposes and drawbacks but are getting serious consideration, say experts.
I currently work for a place that specializes in batteries of different chemistries and form factors, so something like this would be an easy transition for me. Its not a bad thing to start looking early looking into what you'd like to do right out the gate when you graduate college. Just some food for thought.

Move Over Wii

|

I think the last console I personally purchased was a game cube sometime ago, and anyone thats familiar with gaming standards knows that was a very long time ago. This recent article sparked an interest in me, and my possible return to playing "console type format" in that I'm not using a keyboard or mouse, in fact I'm not using anything but my hands. This company is going to have a big fight on their hands of they are trying to go toe to toe with the juggernaut known as Nintendo. I hope they choose their target audience well and have the resources to support a new and exciting break through.

Flexible Sheets of Light

How cool is that?

CeeLite's LEC, embedded between two polymer layers, is plugged into a power source. The company currently uses fresh plastic but is working on a way to use recycled plastic. Ideally, companies like Coca-Cola could make signs out of their old bottles.

I like this innovative idea because they are already thinking ahead about using other resources for materials; materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill.

Cheap Mp3

|

I'm sitting here in Eastern's Library listening to music while I finish up a few papers as the end of the semester quickly approaches. I started wondered if anyone else like myself, are incapable of accomplishing a lot of homework without listening to music? Following the bouncing ball I started to look up inexpensive mp3 players and came across a lot of good deals on the web, this being one of them. Your able to rock out with your favorite genre of music while you do homework for about 8 bucks, 13 or so after shipping.

Another Blog for the Ipod Archive

|

Companies sell software specific for the Ipod

that captures the words of classroom lectures and syncs them with the digital images used during the talk--usually PowerPoint slides and animations
. Just another fine example of Ipods being put to good use; a use that we've discussed in class, as to what can be done with an Ipod. Heres the funny part, its very possible that you can hookup a wireless earpiece to an Ipod and have it freely streaming into your ear without anyone being the wiser...( long hair is suggested ). I'm not by any means suggesting I condone this action, but just food for thought to any prof that may consider using this medium for lectures and notes.

Blogging Issues

|

Yesterday I made a couple blog post in which case they never showed up on my personal blogging page. I started to investigate to see if I had done something wrong on my end, but I discovered that my post number was correct, the blogs showed up on the main blogging page, but just not on mine.

This is the current state of my page.

In this picture you can clearly see I should have 2 more post above the one shown on my personal page.

Edit:

The moment I make a new post, learningremix apparently fixed itself.

A New Way to Bug You

| | Comments (2)

Pollsters are trying to figure out exactly how to obtain their representative sample because more and more people spend less time at home, thus they give up their landlines and are completely mobile. The trick here is that phone numbers no long apply to one geographical region. You can have a 734 area code number and live in Florida, probably not the smartest thing, but a lot of people do it for various reasons. We also have to consider the use of VOIP system as well, another area I think this group of people need to overcome.
