NYPD is given ipods

The NYPD is giving the academy recruits ipods so they can listen and watch their lessons on their commute to and from training. I think that is sum what a bad idea because they can also train by watching their surroundings. I guess since their still in training and not in uniform yet then it is a good idea because listening helps so people understand better then reading.

Yahoo has made a new set of software tools that lets you edit your flickr pictures. Flickr is growing and this is a way for Yahoo to make more money if they have more subscribers. If you have a flickr account already I hope this is helpful to you and the software is due to be out by Tuesday.

Engineers in Space

Some engineers from University of Missouri came up with an algorithm software program that tells the space shuttles which route is the best in space. They tested and validated that it can do this no matter how many years away or worlds away. The only thing I may have a problem with is what if it malfunctions then they are going to be lost in space.

WD Passport Portable

They have this hard drive that you can get outlook, google and picasa on. It is a WD 320GB and if you lose it, it is encrypted with 128 bit encryption. This is small enough to fit in a pocket but pack a lot. This reminds me of like a ipod touch or something.

Sirius and XM

Sirius satellite and XM radio have merged into one. This is approved by the stakeholders but they still need to be approved in Washington. Some don't think that it should happen because together they would have a monopoly over satallite radio. I think that is a good idea for them because they would no longer have to compete but not good for subscribers because with them together any price they charge will have to go or no satellite radio.

Google Maps

Google yet again amazed me. They have google maps on your cell phone to tell your location without using GPS. They use a cell tower ID to get your location. If you have a phone with GPS it will of course work even faster. Google thinks of everything.

Green Energy

I found this article that says that scientist are trying to turn algae into energy. They are in labs seeing what types of algae has the most oil in them and some of them have at least 50% oil. Oil can be turned into bio-diesel or fuel for jets. If this works then I am pretty sure that gas prices will drop dramatically.

Zune

Ipod has something to compete with now. Zune was introduced last year I think and now it has finally became popular. I know someone who has one and theirs still looks very nice since they got it last year. I also know someone who got an ipod video last year and the zune looks ten times better through wear and tear than the ipod. They both sound pretty good do check them out to make your decision.
