Pub Searcher Review

|

Just cruising through all the projects...

I like this site. Easy to find everything. Shows the map and I can get directions to the bars in Ann Arbor. Great for getting reviews as well so you know what kind of a place it is, and most of this information is in the message box for each of the sites.
This seems well thought of and it was a great implementation of the API's. Especially since I know they had to drop some that did not quite work for them.

One question though.. Why is Wazoo Records on the map? (Just above Ashley's)

Music World Review

|

I was playing around with the Music World web site and noticed that not all of the videos were playing. Seems the videos from myspacetv are not loading on the page. Not sure if this is because of a problem with them though.

Otherwise I think its a great site for music shopping/viewing.

Jobfriends - Iteration 3

|

I just looked at the Jobfriends site and would like to say.. Very Nice!

It's easy to use, well structured, and has a a practicle use for me. The use of the Facebook api, with Google Maps (?) and Job finder seems to be a near seamless mashup on the api's. It's a great wrap up to the site and all the iterations I have been witness to over the past 13 weeks.

Now if only I remembered what MY FaceBook login was...

Opera Mini 4

|

Verizon users may have another browser soon that they can user on their high-end phones to surf the web. In this article, Opera Software announced on Thursday compatibility with Qualcomm's BREW platform.

"Although Opera Software has ported code for its mobile browser to the BREW platform, you won't be downloading the app tomorrow. It will remain unavailable until BREW carriers certify or license the browser, and decide if it will be made available through the Opera Mini Web site or through the carrier's interface. The only exception? Verizon BlackBerrys, which are compatible with Opera Mini now, though they lack a minor functionality."

Seems interesting that they would release a browser this way as it has yet to be approved.

NASA is charting new areas of MySpace

|

NASA is moving into new areas or uncharted territory... well no not really. They are trying to get their MyNASA page to be more inviting to the 18-25 age group. Seems they are trying to attract the MySpace group to their site in order to generate more interest in the organization. The stie was updated over the weekend to add more functionality to the site, including new blogs and widgets and more ways for people to view and manipulate content.

Seems a little odd that they can put people in space and vehicles on other plantes... but takes 4 years to update a web page.

You can find the original article here.

Apple - iTunes Movie download

|

A couple of years ago many movie companies were affraid that Apple/iTunes was going to do the same to them as it did for the music industry, and they were scared.

In an article on news.comthey are looking at the how/why Apply can't do to the movie industry as it did to music.
Part of it seems to be the fact you can't rip your current movies to play on the iPod/Phone/Video devices, and that that there are not as many video mobile devices.

But...
It seems now though that the movies available on iTunes is going to get even smaller. NBC announced that is was going to withdraw its content from iTunes (which accounts for 40% of the iTunes sales). Seems also that that NBC has released its content for freed on NBC.com and through six other portal sites.

Facebook changes "Beacon" advertising

|

Facebook in an almost about face, changed their advertising system "Beacon". In a press release Thrusday Facebook announced that there is an option to post the information the the News Feeds. No longer will it be automatic as before, there changing this from an opt-out to an opt-in system. The main advocate for this change was MoveOn.org, and the fact there were multiple complaints filed with the Federal Trade Commission

Facebook embroiled in another legal battle

|

An article on News.com posted November 30th, titled "Seeking 'veritas' in Facebook's latest legal battle" is detailing a new legal battle for Facebook. Seems a magizine geared towards Harvard Alumni titled 02138 is being sued by Facebook for publishing data on the founder of Facebook (Mark Zuckerberg). Though some of the data in it are considered public, the fact that his Address and Social Security Number were published just might be a bit much. Interesting though as Facebook's new ad system records information like that, and is intended to be sold to companies.
Overall the article is detailing how the magazine may have acquired it illegally from court records that were "sealed", and how it is being used in the wrong light showing Mark as "arrogant, spurious, and willing to do anything to scramble his way to the top".

Windows Encryption - Cracked

|

Many people keep finding small problems with Windows OS, from toolkits to Outlook not processing e-mails properly. These are inevitable with any OS unfortunatly.

But a really big problem has been found with Windows OS. Seems a group at the University of Israel have determined the mathimatical algorithim of how Windows 2000 creates it's Psuedo-Random numbers for Encryption. They have determined that by knowing a couple of pieces of information, they can find out how the data was encoded. Not just for the current process, but for any future and possible past data encryptions.

The document was posted on November 4th of this year.
