Technology overload

So now I have a Facebook account and a gmail account. I have a blog for IS449 and have started another one for my MGMT490 group. It seems I have more responsibilites to "stay connected". Lately I've been feeling like I was serving the technology, rather than having it work for me.

So I took about a five-day moratorium on technology. I checked nothing (except my primary email account - hey, I'm not a caveman) from Monday through Friday, and it was great. Of course, I'm behind in all my classes now.

I think it's important to remember that sometimes it's good to spend some time "out of the loop" and that knowledge is just a tool - it is only valuable if we can use it to somehow enrich our lives.

So, are you required to do the blog in MGMT490? Did you come up with it on your own? Who's teaching the course?

I really like the last paragraph of this blog. I have always been a proponent of the term that while knowledge is power, implementation of that knowledge is powerful.

No, I was not required to do the blog. I floated the idea to my group. It's an online class and the prospects of all of us meeting at the same time in person are not good.

I really like the blog format for communication like this. I think it's far superior to email, IM or phone tag for this type of work. I floated the idea to my group members and they seem to be receptive to the idea (a couple of them have joined the blog, but none have made any posts yet. None of them have ever used a blog before).

I really hope it works out. I'm even thinking of starting a personal blog surrounding my other class work for the semester.
