If Microsoft has it way, there will not be a need for them any more. It is being called the MS Surface. There will be no cables or usb to plug in and get tangled up in. Microsoft is softening its attitude on shipping open-source code with Windows with a decision to distribute the handy jQuery JavaScript library with Visual Studio.

I started to search information about the Google Phone when I was bored yesterday. The first thing that really caught my attention was the ability for the phone to use WiFi. I have to believe that using a home internet or wherever else you are that has the access will make this phone as fast a computer when doing browsing. My phone runs off the Sprint network and I always wish when I search for something that the phone would go so much faster so I can share my information quickly. I love being at a sports bar and being able to prove someone that I am right on useless information faster then someone else is able to go home and find out for themselves. With many features of the Google phone it will be very interesting to see if this phone just takes off and sells to everyone or will it be a bust.

This past weekend the ads were working for the first time and being able to access by anyone. It is really fun the first day because it seemed like it got a lot of clicks and views. The following day I realized that I had to make some adjustments. The placement of my ad was getting lower and lower for not enough click to how many times it was viewed. So my first change for the ad was to delete the keywords that went from ok to bad and think of some other keywords that may do better. I then let that run for the day as I continued to look back at it even now and then. I found that I would be always looking at the page that I am trying to create an ad for and continue to think what would be the best thing to make it work. I will continue writing my adjustments and share if I find out anything that would help.

My non Profit is Heritageworks. The lady that I have been in contact with Heritageworks is Rhonda Greene. Our group first started with them and had a very difficult time with the layout of their website. With our group in contact with them about our adwords and our project, we are really helping them out a lot. I feel like in the end they will be able to update their website to what will eventually make them easier to advertise what they offer. Right now the website is very vague and doesn't have a lot of information in the right places.

Yesterday, We have read news that "Visual Studio 2010 to come with black box". So, finally Microsoft agreed to use open source(jquery) and has intentions to contribute to open source community.

JavaScript Object Notation(JSON) is data format used for data exchange on various platforms. It consists of a collection of name/value pairs, ordered list of values(Arrays). In Ajax web application programming, JSON can be used as alternative to XML format. Yahoo, Google provide webservices optionally in JSON.

IBM has applied for a patent on technology that searches on areas of technology that are lacking patents. IBM describes this as "allows one 'to maximize the value of its IP by investigating and identifying areas of relevant patent 'white space' in an industry." These areas could then be patented and companies that had been previously using this unpatented technology could then be charged for that technology. See the patent application here.

Microsoft and the State of Washington have formed a partnership aimed at fighting scareware vendors. These vendors advertise by having a pop-up appear on your screen saying there is something wrong with your computer and only a specific program can fix it. Scareware is often ripe with malware, viruses and exploits. Consumers are forewarned about downloading such products. Hopefully this partnership can try and cut down on the number of advertisements of this sort that people have to deal with.

Yesterday i was "reapportioned" into the Herritage works group after SARC dropped from the program.  I'm feeling extremely frustrated by this for serveral reasons.  not the least of these reasons is that i've transfered into a non for profit who's website is full of holes, "soon to come"s, and general vague information.  Whats more, my new group seems to have everything under complete control, and theres nothing overtly obvious that would be advertiseable left.

This was a pretty funny article about the weird requests that some IT help desks receive. There were some really crazy requests that just baffled me. Among them were someone who mistook their cd-rom drive for a cup holder, someone who said "My computer is telling me to press any key to continue. Where is the 'any' key?" and someone who wanted to know what to do because their laptop had been run over by a truck. Needless to say, now I understand why I have to take some classes at school based on computers that I think are a waste of time...well, apparently they aren't a waste of time for everyone.

This is an article in CNN about how the Hubble telescope failed and forced NASA to delay their visit to the telescope by a year because of the failure. Early Monday afternoon, NASA announced that the October 14 launch had been postponed until at least early next year, possibly February. Curie stressed that the telescope is not in trouble; it just cannot send science information to ground controllers. That means NASA is unable to receive the dramatic pictures Hubble is known for.

Came across this article while I was searching internet for some other information. Its quite fascinating the amount of data that each of these company holds and how they process it. If it's true, as mentioned under Sprint that at peak its around 70,000 call detail transactions are inserted per second, think about the tremendous capacity of these servers and beauty of the technology that can handle the volume/size. One more interesting factor, most people might know this already, that Youtube which holds about 45 Terabytes of data is using MySQL Database as their back end.

There is a nice Javascript library out there that implements a lot of PHP functions. The project is called 'PHP.JS'. If you want to use PHP functions in Javascript you just have to download the .js-file and include it in your page with the script-tag. You can find a functions overview here.

I start playing around with google map over the weekend for the first time. I have have actually got in on my web site. Although it does nothing besides move when I drag it around. You do have to sign up with google to obtain a key to be use on your website. This was a question I think Chelse l. Richter was asking.

There's a new update that is coming to Xbox 360s today. It will introduce a completely revised/updated/better/worse "experience" for their "dashboard." The "dashboard" is kind of like Xbox's Windows; it's the visual display that lets you navigate to the different Xbox utilities, such as Games, marketplace, options, friends, etc.

Some are calling this update "Wii60" because it is introducing an "avatar" into the your gaming experience. An avatar, for those who don't know, is a digital representation of your appearance. Users can take the time to select from a great number of options (eyes, eye color, hair, hair color, clothing, body type, size, etc) and this avatar will take the place of "GamerPics" - pictures that supposedly represent yourself. You can choose whether or not to use the avatar or your original gamer pic.

Some are somewhat upset because they paid money for these game pics.

For those who try to include cookies in their projects: don't use document.cookie! I found a really easy way to manage cookies. You just need jQuery and the jQuery cookie plugin. Copy the files into your project and it works for every browser. Here is a example of how to use the cookie plugin.

Apple announced that they will create a new iTunes software and a new iTunes Store that give the blind consumers the possibility to access iTunes. California recently passed a law that would fine anyone caught driving and texting a minium fine of $20.00. This law is set to go into effect on Jan, 1st 2009. California also passed a recent law that bans the use of cell phones by drivers without hands-free devices.

Visual Studio 2010 aims to break down walls between application development life-cycle roles

Microsoft did not disclose a release date for the updated tool set, called Visual Studio 2010. However, the company did outline the major themes of the new release and described several new application life-cycle management (ALM) tools that will be part of VSTS 2010, which is code-named "Rosario."

As part of the ALM focus for VSTS, Microsoft said it plans to break down the walls that now exist between different developer roles in the development life cycle, such as architects, developers and testers.

The launch of Myspace music on Sep 24th has made it easier to listen to free major label music. MySpace is however not the only game in town to hear free music. Imeem, Last.fm and SpiralFrog are just a few of the sites that offer free music. Imeem has the largest collection of music to offer.

TiVo and Nero have announced today that they will be launching a package that turns a Windows PC into a TV recorder, much like the TiVo sitting on top of your living room television, called Nero LiquidTV/TiVo PC.

Like TiVo's existing TiVo Desktop software, LiquidTV will allow you to transfer shows recorded on other TiVo devices in the home to your PC's hard drive or on an iPod or PSP. It also allows you to burn shows onto DVDs if your computer has a DVD burner.

The interface on the computer screen resembles the one on a TV equipped with a TiVo box. The kit will cost $199 when it goes on sale Oct. 15, and includes a remote and a TV tuner that plugs into the PC.

Google Gears enables us to access websites offline. Gears-enabled Web sites store information on our hard drive in a fully-searchable database, by which we can access the services without internet. We access online files and news feeds without an Internet link. Link for more on Google Gears.

Visual Studio 2010 features the collaboration of different roles during a software development process. Collaboration includes the lead developer, architect, database developer and other roles. Many new features have been included for the lead developer roles and also to the testers.

Apple is re-designing its itune music software for the blind people to use.  This improvement will help blind users to purchase music and movies online.  This new change will be fully accessible by December 31 2008.

I really like what Nero's Liquid TV can do.  This is a life saver.  I record all may favorite shows on comcast's DVR and I pay for that service.  I did want to use Tivo but, I don't have a landline and did not want to mess with AT&T's DSL service.  Also TIVO has subscription fees.

One of the neat feature is that the recorded shows can be now burned on to CD's.

Nokia has come up with its first touchscreen phone named Tube. Nokia's Tube is getting unveiled on october 2nd in London and looks like this smartphone would be cheaper than iPhone and other smartphones. Have to wait few more days to know Tube's features. Click here to read the article.

Google has added traffic updates to England Maps. With this new feature, any person can decide which route to take depending upon the traffic situation that particular day. Microsoft  will be going to offer and support  JQuery java script library with Visual studio developer tool suite.It is also going to extend its support to Jquery open source project by contibuting tests and bugfixes.Nokia has also taken a step to use this open source to develop applications for there Web-Kit based web run time.

Toshiba has announced their new MKxx29GSG series 1.8-inch SATA Hard drives, including the 1.8-inch 250GB(MK2529GSG) hard drive, which is the first in the industry. I was attracted to the picture attached showing the comparison between the hard drive and a 3A battery, and the hard drive is only a little over sized to the battery, and it's shocking. Back to five years, I could only think of a similar sized storage hardware to be a 2Gb or 4Gb drive.

The phone, built by Sharp Corp., uses a technology previously developed by Nissan Motor Co. called "Intelligent Key" that allows drivers enter and start their cars without removing their keys from their pockets or bags. The new twist on this technology is loaded in a phone, and the service will work on the mobile network operated by Japan's largest mobile operator.

This is a very interesting technology to me, and I wish if we could have it here in U.S.. Our cell phone has already integrated media (music, movie, camera, etc.) functions and this new function could enrich the integration so we could really carry only one tiny cell phone and have all the functions we need.

It looks something like Apple Iphone and has a large touch screen, but it have a slide-out keyboard and easy access to Google's programs like Google Maps, YouTube. At first, I thought that the JQuery framework was being overblown as far as each of use.  However, after completing the tutorials in chapter 5 of the Javascript: The Missing Manual book, I am now a convert.  This approach is much easier than the Javascript code I wrote in the past.

Today I feel we made significant progress in our group project. We wrote some of the HTML and Javascript code, and were able to upload the google map to our website. We have much refining to do on the google map and adding the points for our universities, but, progress is being made. Once all the points are added to the map for the locations of the universities, we will then link the youtube videos to the website.

For about $189 dollars you can buy yourself a new Nintendo DS at the end of the year. The sad part is that you will have to travel over to Japan to get one! Don't worry though it will be released world-wide shortly after and then you to can get a new Nintendo DS which includes:

Touch technology has given apple a new image with the introduction of the iphone and now the Apple Ipod touch. Apple plans to offer the Touch at a reasonable price to boost sales. The new Touch will offer support for many mobile applications and programs resulting in a new generation of mobile technology. The new model is also expected to follow the same design as the apple iphone.

Today, my group and I work on our project and started created our own map. We used it through Google maps. I was impressed by how easy it was to create it but now we have to figure out if we need to obtain a new API key for the our map. Any answers to that question?

Google recently filed a patent describing its vision on open wireless networks where smartphones arent locked to a single wireless network but can switchover to other networks automatically based on signal strength and price.This is in contrast  how the system works now and even the android based smartphone at present is tied with Tmobile.

Apple is selling its unlocked IPhone in HongKong on sale. People can use this phone with any mobile carrier. What's interesting here is the cost, 8GB is for $695 and 16GB is for $798.

According to Marin Perez, many people who want to use this new phone for business cannot use it because it doesn't have Microsoft Exchange support and desktop syncing client. It is providing Word and Excel as well as PDF's for the customers. Its cost is $179 which is $20 less compared to IPhone.

This is a website which has a list of JSON bindings . This is a data interchange language. It is built on 2 structures i.e. Name/Value Pairs and the other is list of values.

JSON is called as Javascript Object Notation. This is mainly used in Ajax which is an alternative for XML format. It is a language independent data format. Here you can see some more examples.

Anyway's reading through the features I got curious as to why/what Android is and seems to me its a very powerful platform which is build using C/C++ libraries.

This was an interesting article I read which took a somewhat pessimistic perspective of evolving computer technology. Many of the views within the article are very agreeable, but think of what this new technology does for us. If we didn't use it there would be no reason to buy it and companies would not continue to invest money to develop it. My favorite quote from this article is "New computer technology is a distraction you can't afford". For some this may be true, but we are pushing towards a more automated workforce, so the overall cost of this new technology may outweigh the cost of labor a company would invest over a set period of time. The bottom line is business's need to do an overal cost-benefit business analysis before they purchase new technology. Once new technology becomes useless, and people do not have a need for it, then articles such as this one would be accurate and have a case to fall back on. If technology ever stopped changing, we would no longer advance, and that is about what our economy is...advancement.

Mitsubishi has recently announced the introduction of a new tv technology. They have created some of the first laser TV's. The resolution is supposed to be even more clear then full high definition 1080p LCD and Plasma TV. The retail price for this 65" TV is expected to be around $6,999. The trademark name of the new Mitsubishi TV is Laservue. Perhaps this could be the reason we have all seen a price decline in present LCD and plasma televisions.

It seems the introduction of "bad" mortgages to the market has lead to a serious situation our government is trying to deal with. Could the 700 billion dollar bill help pull the finance industry out of the hole it is currently in? Or should this money be redistributed? Why not give it to consumers  to help pay off the bad debt? Or use it to pay off the bad mortgage and require the consumers to refinance with a better fixed rate mortgage?

As I mentioned previously, companies are intriqued about Android and its possibilities.  Electronic Arts has stated that it will develop games for Android once the sales channels are confirmed.  I believe Android will be a game-changer for the mobile phone genre and provide a valid competitor to Apple and the iPhone thereby driving down prices for everyone.

Skype and Digium presented an new Asterisk add-(Skype for Asterisk)on on the AstriCon(big open source conference). The add-on allows Asterisk telephone systems to use skype. Due to Asterisk systems are widely used in call centers and as big telephone systems it is very iteresting especially for companies.So it is also very interesting that you can easily integrate it into existing CRM software.

At the moment it is in beta status. It will cost money when it is final.

SanDisc just has just introduced new micro SDHC and m2 cards with maximum capacity of 16gb. This is an doubling of the actual max. capacity of these cards. The current phones/cameras usually just support up to 8GB. This means in the most cases a firmware update would be necessary.

Apple offers an new feature in the itunes music store. This feature uses an algorithm that searches your music database and creates you an playlist based on your last searched music. For example if you are listening to blur it says: red hot chilli pepers are good too ;)

Foresight presented a new Linux distribution especially developed for kids. It's equipped with free learning software for various ages and interestes and very easy to use. Of course you can download it for free. I think it is a good way to get kids used to work with a pc and especially another OS than Microsofts Windows ;)

Two senatos brought the Pro IP into the discussion at the senat. The contract trys to simplify the confiscation of goods and tools which are used for offenses to Intellectual Property. Ebay announces that they will cut down its staff about 10 per cent. So there will be 1500 jobs affected from the total of 15000. This is a reaction to the weakening main business (online auctions). I will admitted I am not used to blogging. So I have been forgetting to fill in my tags at the bottom of each of my blog posts.  I know a lot of my friends blog constantly on Facebook and Myspace.

One of my biggest complaints about blogging is the damage I have seen it do to peoples' lives. The other is that people expect you to have spent time reading their blogs when you ask them what they have been up to.

Our ads went live on Friday afternoon and Dr. Gibson had to delete alot of poorly scored words off the bat. I went and looked my ad on Sat morning and all my keywords had gone south. It took some real digging to find keywords that were ranked OK and did not have a high bid price tag on them.

I found a bunch of companies offering keyword generating services. I had no idea keywords was such a big deal. I found a Google suggested keyword tool called "Web Rank Info." It gives associated words for any given keyword.

I will admit that i am almost completely ignorrant to technology that i dont learn in classes, but i am interested in learning more.  I recently got an offer from Wired Magazine in the mail for a $10 yearly subscription. I was thinking this would be good to keep me up on current technologies, but i was wondering if anyone already read this magazine and could recommend it. I will say that i do write for the Eastern Echo, but this blog posting is still unbiased. Anyone who viewed the website last semester or this summer knows it was lacking. If you view it now though it has been greatly upgraded. I have nothing to do with the design or anything, but i must say it is a vast improvement to last year. This is a nice example how to use JQuery.  An interactive map of a plane in which every seat is an object that correlates to a row of data.  I can see ticketmaster implementing something similar to this that shows probable vantage points for each seating area.

Personally, I believe the G1 and the Android SDK will provide a foundation for truly integrating technology in individual's lives versus when a desktop or laptop is available.  One interesting application is Locale.   As a father, I can see this being benefical for executing a script that automatically e-mails my child to gather her things say if I am within a mile of her current location.  Another concept would be an application that provides an inventory of parking meters in a city along with its current status (available, occupied).  Drivers in congested cities (such as Ann Arbor) would be able to easily determine available parking based upon their current destination and modify plans if required

While browing the internet for information on JQuery, I came across this article from www.webmonkey.com regarding a 12-year old that is proficient in the framework.  I'm not sure how my IS449 classmates will feel about this but I view it as a challenge to learn what I can.  Time to go to work!!!

So i met with the President of SARC and her assistant, Denise Reinke and Carrie Bergmens respectively, concerning goals for there ad campaign today.  It went very well; everyone seems very excited to get on the road.  In fact i was so pumped that i went home and immediately started making adjustments to the ad group i'm controlling based on suggestions and input from Denise and Carrie based on what i already knew on effective advertising from being bombarded by the daily.  Now, heres where i went wrong.

In my excitement i completely changed a lot of my effective ad variations.  so...  not only did i reset the statistics on those ads, i completely lost an ad variation that was working well.

Therefore i propose this solution.  Instead of editing an existing ad variation, just create a whole new one.  variations can be paused and resumed on command, so by doing that you won't lose what works, and u can get rid of what ever doesn't.

In addition, don't forget to use the Google Adwords keyword search test page so u don't bloat your own statistics!
